Clown is a dynamic, physical art form that invites actors to reconnect with instinct, spontaneity, and playful curiosity. In this class, you’ll explore how to release self-consciousness, trust your impulses, and fully engage with the present moment.
Through movement, games, and partner work, you’ll develop deeper connection—with yourself, your scene partners, and your audience. Clown techniques strengthen versatility and bring authenticity, responsiveness, and joy to performances across all genres of theater.
Whether you’re looking to expand your range or rediscover the fun of performing, this class offers a supportive space to take risks, play boldly, and grow as an artist.

About the Instructor:
McKell has been clowning since 2019 and developed not only a love, but a reverence, for clown. It opened up new abilities in performance and changed the course of McKell’s artistic pursuits. Devising clown shows from college campuses to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland has given McKell valuable experience in training, directing, producing, and performing clown. McKell has read and worked from many books including The Art of Clowning by Eli Simon and Clown, The Physical Comedian by Joe Dieffenbacher. Much of their experience comes from working on their feet with people eager to do the same. Currently McKell is working on a new clown show hopefully set to perform in Utah in 2027!
